Oral Cancer Screening

Oral cancer screening is done to see signs of cancer in the mouth. This is performed by some dentists on a regular basis, especially if you are at a higher risk. The goal of this screening is to catch any lesions or pre cancerous conditions as early as possible. If detected early, the chances of successful treatment are much higher.

Factors that increase the risk of Oral Cancer are:

  • Tobacco Use

  • Alcohol consumption

  • Immune deficiencies such as HIV & AIDS

  • Previous oral cancer diagnosis

  • History of prolonged exposure to the sun

Some signs and symptoms of Oral Cancer:

  • Bleeding in the mouth

  • Loose teeth

  • White or/and red patches on the lips or in the mouth

  • A lump or growth on the lips, tongue or in the mouth

  • Slurred speech

  • Pain when swallowing

  • Weight Loss

  • Swollen salivary glands or lymph nodes

Talk to your dentist and come in for a screening as soon as possible if you experience any of these symptoms. At Mystic Pointe Dental we can do a complete check-up.
